About CrackedEarth
Also known as: SearchHook
CrackedEarth is a homepage- and search-hijacker implemented
as an Internet Explorer search hook class and a process run at
startup. The homepage-hijacker adds a crackedearth.com search
bar added to the bottom of your normal start page, and sends
address bar searches to genieknows.com via a crackedearth.com
frameset. May also add crackedearth.com bookmarks to your
Favorites list.
Note: older versions of the script at this site would
report a false positive of CrackedEarth as being installed
when in fact it was ShopNav.
Removal Instructions
Automatic Removal:
CrackedEarth can be detected and removed Automatically
by Spyware Doctor, also SpyEraser.
Manual Removal:
Follow these steps to remove CrackedEarth from your
machine. Begin by backing up your registry and your system,
and/or setting a Restore Point, to prevent trouble if you make
a mistake.
- Kill these running processes with Task Manager:
cglbar.exe
- Unregister these DLLs with Regsvr32, then reboot:
cglbar.dll
- Remove these registry items (if present) with RegEdit:
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\clsid\{c5067f59-9d0d-11d2-aa90-000000000000}
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\software\searchhook
- Remove these files (if present) with Windows Explorer:
cglbar.dll
cglbar.exe
setup.inf
- After
following the instructions above, you will still need to
restore your original settings and prevent this from
happening again. Here's how.
