About DSSAgent
Also known as: Brodcast, Brødcast, DSS Agent
An (apparently) discontinued spyware product of Brøderbund
Software. Bundled with most Brøderbund and Learning Company
titles until April, 2002. A desktop computer running DSSAgent
might send over 10,000 DNS requests in 15 minutes, slowing
network traffic. There are reports that it slows CPU
processing as well.
Removal Instructions
Automatic Removal:
DSSAgent can be detected and removed Automatically
by Spyware Doctor, also SpyEraser.
Manual Removal:
Follow these steps to remove DSSAgent from your machine. Begin
by backing up your registry and your system, and/or setting a
Restore Point, to prevent trouble if you make a mistake.
- Kill these running processes with Task Manager:
systemroot+\bbstore\dss\dssagent.exe
- Remove these registry items (if present) with RegEdit:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\broderbund software\dss
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\broderbund software\dss
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\shareddlls
\c:\windows\bbstore\dss\dssagent.exe
- Remove these files (if present) with Windows Explorer:
systemroot+\bbstore\dss\dssagent.exe
dssregistry.ini
